The popular Tomtom ONE sat nav is incredibly easy to operate. Most people get to grips with basic (most used) functions within 5 minutes of taking it out the box.
One of the many features of the latest tomtom sat nav is the “Help Me” function that can pinpoint exactly where you are, should you be stranded. It can also be used to locate the nearest emergency services such as police and hospitals.
The Garmin Nuvifone G60 is a GPS device with mobile phone ability; basically it’s a satnav with a phone. One of the main advantages of this new device is you don’t need to download all the maps and it doubles as a hands-free car kit. Garmin and rival TomTom have other hands-free GPS units that let you do this by connecting your Bluetooth phone to the GPS device but none quite as swish as the G60.

With Wi-Fi capability and 5-meg camera the Nuvifone has a very nice geo-location feature that tags photos to let you know exactly where they were snapped. It also features an array of location based services (LBS) technology and a very useful “last position” attribute that navigates you back to a pre-determined point of origin such as you car after a big shopping fest. Other features include a 3.5-inch WVGA resistive touch screen, 3G connectivity, 2.5mm headphone jack and 2GB of expandable internal memory.
Initially rolled out last October in the USA the G60 is set to debut in the UK early 2010, watch this space as they’re predicted to fly off the shelves.
Tomtom has always been king of marketing and when it comes to giving people what the want Tomtom has listened and the new Tomtom ONE V4 features the innovative EasyPort™ mounting system that allows the device to fold flat after use. The actual unit and the windscreen mount, is then small enough to fit into a shirt pocket, handbag or coat pocket when the driver leaves the vehicle.

But that’s not all, with Tomtom One V4 you’ll get upgraded Loud and clear voice instructions for safer driving, TomTom Map Share™ that allows thousands of Tomtom users to contribute and download millions of corrections and improvements uploaded every month via the TomTom online user community. The model also features a comprehensive range of safety features, so drivers have direct access to safety and roadside information, emergency and breakdown service numbers, directions to the nearest hospital, car maintenance advice and first aid illustrations. Customers can be reassured that if a new updated map becomes available within the first 30 days of use, they will be entitled to a free download of the latest map.
Tomtom never fails to amaze with their ongoing new product development. The latest Sat Nav is the TomTom XL Live. This has the option of subscribing to ‘live’ traffic services to keep your jouney as jam free as possible, all on-the-fly. The system also has a built in Google search to find the cheapest petrol prices on the way and has a local business search. This really is the latest in internet enabled integrated services and remains to be seen how well it’s taken up. Also we see the launch of the new Tomtom One V4. It’s a good looking study entry-level model with intuitive easy to use controls and rapid GPS lock-on – a good all-rounder.
